My dead parents are going to be an audiobook!
I spent last week at Head First Studios here in Louisville recording the audiobook version of My Parents Are Dead: What Now? A Panic-Free Guide to the Practicalities of Death. Considering it was my first time in a recording studio, it went pretty well!
When my book was originally released, several people asked me if there was going to be an audiobook, and I told them the truth: I wasn’t sure. I knew I still held the rights to record an audiobook according to my contract, but I had no idea how to go about making that happen.
Late last year, however, Quirk Books—the press that published my book—was acquired by another small press, Andrews McMeel. And it was the wonderful Charlie Upchurch at Andrews McMeel who asked if I wanted to record an audiobook. Obviously I said yes. If nothing else, it would be an adventure!
The process was so interesting—I even got to meet with a vocal coach, who told me to gossip into the microphone and eat green apples. I’m not sure exactly when the audiobook will be out yet, but I’ll absolutely let you know when preorders are available.
