In the first chapter of my book, My Parents Are Dead: What Now? A Panic-Free Guide to the Practicalities of Death, I wrote the following about death doulas:

"Earlier when I mentioned my trauma response was to learn about active dying? I learned by training and becoming a certified death doula. I’m not taking clients yet, but I might start if the royalties from this book aren’t enough to live on. (Just kidding—book royalties are almost never enough to live on.)”
